Cold brew is coffee made without any heat — you simply mix ground coffee with cold water, put it in the fridge, and let time do the work. The result is a naturally sweet, incredibly smooth coffee that's refreshing over ice and much gentler on the stomach than regular hot coffee. It takes patience, but the hands-on effort is almost zero.
How to Make It:
You'll need: 6–7 tablespoons / 50g of coarsely ground coffee | 2 cups / 400ml of cold water
(Want a bigger batch? Use 14 tablespoons / 100g of coffee and 4 cups / 800ml of water — it keeps in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.)
- Get a large jar or pitcher and add your coarsely ground coffee.
- Pour the cold water over the grounds and stir well to make sure all the coffee is fully wet.
- Cover the jar with a lid or plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator.
- Leave it to steep for at least 12 hours — 16 hours gives the best results. You can leave it up to 24 hours for a stronger flavor.
- When it's ready, pour the liquid through a fine sieve, cheesecloth, or coffee filter into a clean jar to remove all the grounds.
- Serve over ice and enjoy. Add a splash of milk or water if you prefer a lighter drink.
Tip: Cold brew keeps in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, so make a big batch and have it ready whenever you want. It's especially great to have on hand during warm weather.
