Espresso is a small but powerful shot of coffee — usually about the size of a shot glass — brewed by pushing hot water through finely ground beans. The result is a bold, concentrated cup with a rich golden foam on top called crema. It's the base for lattes, cappuccinos, and americanos, or delicious enjoyed on its own.
How to Make It:
You'll need: 2 tablespoons / 18g of finely ground coffee | 1.5 oz / 45ml of water
- Grind your coffee very finely — it should feel almost like flour between your fingers.
- Add your ground coffee into the small metal cup that came with your machine (called a portafilter).
- Press the coffee down firmly and evenly with the tamper tool so it's flat and compact.
- Lock it into the machine and press the brew button.
- Your espresso should be ready in about 25–30 seconds — you'll get roughly a shot glass worth of coffee with a golden foam on top.
- Serve right away and enjoy.
Tip: If your coffee comes out very quickly and tastes weak, grind it a little finer next time. If it barely drips and tastes very bitter, grind it a little coarser.
